Description
Rat Keratinocyte Media is a low-calcium, serum-free culture formulation designed to support the in vitro expansion and phenotypic maintenance of primary rat keratinocytes. By providing nutrients, trace elements, and growth-supporting components, this medium helps maintain proliferation of basal-like cells while reducing premature calcium-associated differentiation.
Keratinocytes are specialized epithelial cells that make up the majority of the epidermis in mammalian skin and cutaneous tissue. They form a stratified squamous epithelium organized into basal, spinous, granular, and cornified layers.
As keratinocytes migrate upward from the basal layer, they produce keratin filaments, lipids, and cell-cell junctions that contribute to the epidermal barrier. They also interact with melanocytes, nerve endings, and immune cells and can release cytokines and other inflammatory mediators in response to injury or chemical stress.
Primary rat keratinocytes are sensitive to calcium concentration and serum components, which can promote differentiation and reduce proliferative capacity. Rat Keratinocyte Media provides conditions intended to support growth and maintenance of primary rat keratinocytes in vitro.
This formulation is useful in dermatological biology, cutaneous pharmacology, and toxicology, including wound healing, re-epithelialization, epidermal barrier studies, inflammatory responses, skin carcinogenesis, non-melanoma cancer research, and transdermal drug delivery.
Medium carefully optimized for the characteristics and requirements unique to Skin Cells. Attention to detail ensures ideal cell health, viability, performance, physiology, morphology, consistency and data.

CAI media are tested for sterility in order to confirm no bacteria, yeast or fungi contaminate the solutions. The products undergo further quality control for correct pH, osmolality and lack of endotoxins. A panel of different bioassays affirm the media sustain a proper environment for expected cell-type-specific culture, growth, plating, karyotype, physiology, morphology, viability, population doublings, surface markers, cryopreservation, differentiation and/or induction.
Laboratory research use only (RUO). Not for human, clinical, diagnostic or veterinary use.
