Organoid
Organoids represent an advanced class of three-dimensional (3D) in vitro tissue models engineered to recapitulate many cellular and structural features, as well as aspects of the physiological functions found in native organs. Unlike conventional two-dimensional (2D) monolayer cultures, which constrain cells to unphysiologically flat surfaces and drive rapid phenotypic drift, organoids leverage the intrinsic self-organizing capabilities of cells within a supportive extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffold.
By utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cells (HiPSCs) via directed differentiation cascades, investigators can reproduce key sequence aspects of development.
