Cytofect™ Transfection Kits are specifically optimized for transfecting primary cells in one complete, affordable system. Unlike many commercially available transfection kits optimized primarily for immortalized cells, the Cytofect™ Fibroblast Transfection Kit is designed for efficient, viable transfection of cultured primary fibroblasts, which can be more difficult to transfect while retaining physiologically relevant characteristics.

Fibroblasts are connective-tissue cells found throughout the body. The Cytofect™ Fibroblast Transfection Kit is suitable for a range of primary human fibroblast cell types, including HDF (Human Dermal Fibroblasts) from the dermis; Human Cardiac Fibroblasts (HCF) from the heart; Human Colonic Fibroblasts (HCnF) from the colon; Human Hepatic Fibroblasts (HHF) from the liver; Human Lung Fibroblasts (HLF) from lung tissue; Human Pericardial Fibroblasts (HPcF) from the pericardium; Human Hepatic Duct Fibroblasts (HHDF) from the hepatic ducts; and Human Gall Bladder Fibroblasts (HGBF) from the gall bladder.

In healthy tissues, fibroblasts synthesize, organize, and remodel the extracellular matrix, including collagen, fibronectin, and other structural components. They contribute to tissue architecture, wound repair, inflammatory signaling, and maintenance of the local cellular microenvironment. Depending on their tissue of origin and experimental conditions, fibroblasts may also participate in pathological processes such as fibrosis, tumor-stroma formation, and abnormal tissue remodeling.

The Cytofect™ Fibroblast Transfection Kit is a plasmid DNA delivery system containing Cytofect-2, a peptide Enhancer, transfection medium, and antibiotic-free growth medium. The Enhancer complexes with DNA and Cytofect-2 to facilitate delivery of the transfection complex into primary fibroblast cells. This system enables researchers to introduce nucleic acids — including plasmid DNA — into cultured cells for applications involving gene function, gene regulation, reporter assays, protein expression, cell signaling, and studies of extracellular matrix biology.
