Adipose tissue is a highly specialized, dynamic metabolic and endocrine organ distributed throughout subcutaneous and visceral depots. Far from serving as passive energy storage insulation, adipose tissue plays a central role in systemic energy homeostasis, lipid processing, and endocrine signaling. The tissue architecture relies on a well-orchestrated cellular network, principally composed of mature Human Adipocytes (HAd) and their progenitor pool, Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Adipose Tissue (HMSC-Ad)—also referred to as adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) or adipose mesenchymal progenitor cells.
Isolated HAd and HMSC-Ad platforms serve as vital in vitro models. These systems are extensively utilized to study the molecular mechanisms of lipogenesis and lipolysis, evaluate adipokine secretion profiles, model insulin resistance and obesity-associated inflammation, and investigate tissue regeneration paradigms in regenerative medicine.
