Mononuclear

Mononuclear cells constitute a critical, highly heterogeneous population of immune and progenitor cells characterized by a single, round nucleus. Unlike polymorphonuclear leukocytes (such as neutrophils or eosinophils), which possess segmented nuclei and granular cytoplasms, mononuclear fractions are specialized for adaptive immunity, antigen presentation, tissue surveillance, and regenerative repair. In standard in vitro biomedical research, two primary distinct niches are leveraged: Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC / HMNC-PB) and Human Mononuclear Cells from Bone Marrow (HMNC-BM).

Isolating these primary fractions yields unmanipulated, physiologically relevant cell populations. They serve as essential human-background systems across disciplines, ranging from immunotoxicology screenings and vaccine evaluation to stem cell biology, tissue engineering, and the development of advanced biomaterials and cell-based diagnostic biosensors.
