Description

Rat Macrophage & Microglia Cell Media is a specialized culture medium designed to support the growth, viability, and functional maintenance of primary rat immune cells in vitro. Formulated for sensitive cells, it helps provide a stable and reproducible environment for routine culture, activation studies, and downstream functional assays.

Rat macrophages are myeloid cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system. In rats, these cells may arise from bone marrow-associated monocyte precursor populations and populate tissues such as the peritoneal cavity, where resident macrophage populations contribute to immune surveillance and homeostasis. In the liver, Kupffer cells serve as specialized macrophage populations. As part of the innate immune system, macrophages participate in phagocytosis, inflammatory response, inflammation, cytokine production, and signaling cascade pathways that influence tissue repair and the tumor microenvironment. MCP-related signaling is also commonly studied in macrophage biology.

Microglia are the resident immune cells of the central nervous system and populate the brain parenchyma behind the blood-brain barrier. These primary cells arise largely from embryonic myeloid progenitors and are essential for neural homeostasis. In the brain, microglia interact with neurons and astrocytes, survey the local environment, prune synapses, and clear cellular debris. In neurodegenerative research models, microglia are investigated for their response to amyloid beta plaque and other pathological changes. Some literature may use Mcg in reference to microglial populations or related models.

Rat Macrophage & Microglia Cell Media provides a reliable culture platform for maintaining healthy, responsive cells for research in immunology, neuroinflammation, and host-pathogen interactions.
