Description
Rat Skeletal Muscle Cell Differentiation Medium is a culture formulation designed to support the differentiation of primary rat skeletal muscle cells (RSkMC) in vitro. By providing low-serum conditions and differentiation-supporting components, this medium helps promote the transition of mononucleated myoblasts away from proliferation and toward alignment and fusion into multinucleated myotube and myofiber-like structures.
Skeletal muscle cells are the contractile cells of skeletal muscle and are attached to bone through tendons; they contribute to movement, posture, and joint stability.
In skeletal muscle biology, these cells are important for:
- Contraction and relaxation during locomotion
- Glucose uptake and glycogen storage in response to insulin
- Regeneration and repair following injury, through activation and fusion of satellite cell-derived myoblasts
Primary myoblasts in culture require appropriate differentiation conditions to exit the cell cycle and fuse efficiently. Suboptimal culture conditions or prolonged passage may affect alignment, fusion, or senescence. Rat Skeletal Muscle Cell Differentiation Medium can be used to support primary rat myoblast differentiation for studies of contraction, insulin signaling, glucose metabolism, diabetes, and skeletal muscle repair.
