Description

Rat Smooth Muscle Cell Media is an optimized cell culture medium for maintaining healthy, functional rat primary cells, including rat aortic smooth muscle cells (RAOSMC) and rat pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (RPASMC). These smooth muscle cells are found in the walls of blood vessels, where they regulate vascular tone, blood flow, and vessel diameter. In the pulmonary and systemic circulation, vascular smooth muscle contributes to vessel remodeling and responds to mechanical, hormonal, inflammatory, and metabolic signals.
Vascular smooth muscle cells, often abbreviated as vascular SMC, are contractile cells with the capacity to change phenotype in response to injury or disease. In their contractile state, they help maintain vascular structure and control vasoconstriction and vasodilation. Under pathological or experimental conditions, they may adopt a more synthetic phenotype characterized by increased proliferation, migration, extracellular-matrix production, and altered expression of contractile markers. These properties make rat smooth muscle cells useful cell models for studying vascular biology, atherosclerosis, pulmonary hypertension, hypertension, restenosis, inflammation, fibrosis, and diabetes-related vascular dysfunction.
This smooth muscle cell medium contains growth factors, supplements, and other components selected to support the requirements of rat vascular smooth muscle cells. The formulation is designed to promote cell attachment, viability, growth, morphology, population expansion, and maintenance of physiologically relevant characteristics in culture. Consistent nutritional and growth-factor support helps researchers obtain reproducible cultures for cell-based assays, proliferation and migration studies, pharmacological screening, gene-expression analysis, and other applications in molecular biology.
Rat Smooth Muscle Cell Media can also support workflows involving primary-cell expansion, phenotypic characterization, and comparison of healthy and diseased vascular responses. Well-maintained rat cells provide a practical in vitro system for investigating signaling pathways, vascular remodeling, inflammatory responses, and interactions between smooth muscle cells and other cell types, including endothelial cells and immune cells. The medium may therefore be used alongside studies involving endothelial-specific adenoviral overexpression, co-culture systems, and other experimental approaches, provided that the complete protocol is validated for the intended application.
The medium is intended for research use with rat vascular smooth muscle cells and is not a universal medium for mouse cells, rabbit cells, human cells, epithelial cells, liver cells, bone marrow cells, mesenchymal stem cells, or other primary cell types. Those applications generally require species- and cell-type-specific formulations. Similarly, researchers working with mouse tissues, rat tissues, human primary cells, diabetic mouse cells, or tumor endothelial cell culture should select a medium validated for the specific source tissue and experimental objective.
As part of broader cell biologics and cell biologics products research, this formulation can be incorporated into workflows involving primary-cell isolation, expansion, characterization, and storage. It may complement custom cell isolation, cell cryopreservation, and culture animal primary cells workflows involving rat primary cells, as well as research programs using monkey primary cells, porcine primary cells, canine primary cells, or C57BL/6 mouse primary cells when appropriate species-specific media are used. It is not intended to establish a stable cell line, generate immortalized primary cells, or replace specialized media for stem cells, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, or other cell populations.
By providing a controlled culture environment, Rat Smooth Muscle Cell Media helps researchers reduce avoidable variation in cell health and performance while generating reproducible experimental material for vascular cell culture protocols, disease modeling, and drug-response studies. An FBS-free version is also available for applications requiring serum-free or reduced-serum experimental conditions. All products are intended for research use only.
Medium carefully optimized for the characteristics and requirements unique to smooth muscle cells. Attention to detail ensures ideal cell health, viability, performance, physiology, morphology, consistency and data.
Details
CAI media are tested for sterility in order to confirm no bacteria, yeast or fungi contaminate the solutions. The products undergo further quality control for correct pH, osmolality and lack of endotoxins. A panel of different bioassays affirm the media sustain a proper environment for expected cell-type-specific culture, growth, plating, karyotype, physiology, morphology, viability, population doublings, surface markers, cryopreservation, differentiation and/or induction.
Laboratory research use only (RUO). Not for human, clinical, diagnostic or veterinary use.
