Attachment and matrix solutions are sterile, liquid preparations engineered to promote cell adhesion, spreading, and growth on tissue culture surfaces.
In native tissues, primary cells are embedded within a complex structural meshwork that provides vital biochemical and mechanical cues. Because primary human cells and delicate induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) lack the autonomous survival mechanisms of continuous cell lines, they often fail to attach or survive when plated directly onto untreated polystyrene plastic. To bridge this gap, matrix solutions provide a biomimetic surface coating that replicates the natural tissue architecture, supporting early viability across fragile culture lines without introducing uncharacterized serum variables.
In standard laboratory protocols, these solutions are applied directly to the interior surfaces of culture vessels, such as plates, wells, or a standard T-75 flask, prior to the introduction of cells or culture medium. The coating procedure requires uniform coverage and careful temperature management.
