Description

Human Neuron Medium is a specialized culture formulation designed to support the attachment, survival, and maintenance of human neurons in vitro. The formulation is intended for human brain neuronal cultures and may be evaluated for use with additional neuronal populations, including specified primary or iPSC-derived cell types, where appropriate validation data are available.
Neurons are electrically excitable cells that form the functional basis of communication within the central and peripheral nervous systems. Human brain neurons are organized into specialized circuits throughout the cerebral cortex, hippocampal formation, basal ganglia, brainstem, cerebellum, and other regions. Peripheral sensory neurons, including neurons whose cell bodies reside in dorsal root ganglia, transmit information about mechanical, thermal, and potentially painful stimuli from the body to the central nervous system.
Neurons receive synaptic and other chemical signals through their dendrites and cell bodies. Many dendrites contain dendritic spines, which serve as specialized postsynaptic compartments. When a neuron reaches threshold, an action potential is initiated — usually near the axon initial segment — and propagates along the axon to presynaptic terminals, where neurotransmitter release enables communication with other neurons or target cells. Changes in synaptic strength and connectivity contribute to neuronal plasticity and circuit function.
Human Neuron Medium provides a nutrient-balanced culture environment for maintaining neuronal morphology and viability in vitro. Depending on the neuronal source, substrate, culture duration, and experimental conditions, cultures may be used to study neurite outgrowth, neuronal morphology, synaptic development, electrophysiological activity, and responses to pharmacological or toxicological stimuli.
Potential applications include:
- neuronal morphology and neurite-outgrowth assays;
- studies of synaptic development and neuronal signaling;
- electrophysiological studies, including patch clamp and multielectrode-array assays, where validated for the specific neuronal preparation;
- modeling of neurodegenerative or neurological disease mechanisms using appropriate primary or iPSC-derived neurons; and
- compound screening for neurotoxicity, neuroprotection, axonal growth, or other neuron-specific responses.
Medium carefully optimized for the characteristics and requirements unique to Brain Cells. Attention to detail ensures ideal cell health, viability, performance, physiology, morphology, consistency and data.

Details
CAI media are tested for sterility in order to confirm no bacteria, yeast or fungi contaminate the solutions. The products undergo further quality control for correct pH, osmolality and lack of endotoxins. A panel of different bioassays affirm the media sustain a proper environment for expected cell-type-specific culture, growth, plating, karyotype, physiology, morphology, viability, population doublings, surface markers, cryopreservation, differentiation and/or induction.
Laboratory research use only (RUO). Not for human, clinical, diagnostic or veterinary use.
