Description

Human Epi Media is a specialized epithelial cell culture medium formulated to support primary human epithelial cell types, including Human Prostate Epithelial Cells (HPrEpC) and Human Placental Epithelial Cells (HPlEpC). By providing an optimized basal nutritional backbone alongside defined growth factor conditions, this medium supports epithelial viability and the maintenance of lineage-associated phenotype and functional properties across routine expansion and passage workflows.

In urological research, Human Epi Media supports the culture of HPrEpC as a primary epithelial model for studying normal prostate epithelial biology, including regulation of differentiation-associated programs and physiologic signaling relevant to pregnancy-independent adult tissue homeostasis. Researchers use primary HPrEpC alongside disease-relevant models to investigate mechanisms underlying luminal vs basal epithelial behavior and to compare pathway activity, expression changes, and cell-state responses under experimental perturbations.

In reproductive and placental biology, Human Epi Media supports HPlEpC populations derived from fetal membrane and amniotic environments, including epithelial cells associated with the epithelial lining of the fetal membranes. These extraembryonic epithelial populations have properties often described as multipotent/stem-like, relatively low immunogenicity, and strong capacity for immunomodulation, which makes them valuable for studies that address both barrier function and regenerative potential. In these contexts, researchers use Human Epi Media to help maintain epithelial integrity and physiological responsiveness at the maternal–fetal interface, supporting experiments in reproductive medicine, toxicity-relevant assays, and infection- or inflammation-associated barrier dynamics.

Across both primary epithelial models, Human Epi Media provides a standardized, quality-controlled culture environment for 2D monolayers and barrier-based assays, including Transwell-style formats, as well as advanced 3D systems and organoids when supported by additional reagents. This consistency enables reproducible readouts across experiments, including gene/protein expression analysis and functional testing in drug discovery and translational research that evaluates how test agents affect epithelial integrity, signaling, and cell survival.

Medium carefully optimized for the characteristics and requirements unique to Human Placental and Prostate Epithelial Cells.  Attention to detail ensures ideal cell health, viability, performance, physiology, morphology, consistency and data.  As with the majority of our epithelial cell media, this product contains no serum.

Use with:

EpiVita Basal Medium, used in conjunction with Epi growth supplement,  provides excellent culture conditions for Placental and Prostate Epithelial cells.  This robust and versatile basal medium is animal origin-free, and contains essential & non-essential amino acids, vitamins, other organic compounds, trace minerals and inorganic salts.  Available only from Cell Applications, top-performing EpiVita Basal Medium (plus supplement), outperforms competitor formulations by a wide margin. Manufactured in a GMP certified facility, EpiVita is an ideal choice for fundamental life science studies, pharmaceutical drug discovery & toxicity assay, and translational research aimed at taking discoveries from the bench to the clinic.

Details

CAI media are tested for sterility in order to confirm no bacteria, yeast or fungi contaminate the solutions.  The products undergo further quality control for correct pH, osmolality and lack of endotoxins. A panel of different bioassays affirm the media sustain a proper environment for expected cell-type-specific culture, growth, plating, karyotype, physiology, morphology, viability, population doublings, surface markers, cryopreservation, differentiation and/or induction.
Laboratory research use only (RUO). Not for human, clinical, diagnostic or veterinary use.
