Porcine Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells (PPASMC) provide a useful in vitro model to study cellular and molecular mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension, a condition often associated with the aberrant proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells. As specialized vascular smooth muscle cells derived from the pulmonary arteries of swine, they serve as an important experimental system in molecular biology and cardiovascular research.
In vivo, these cells reside within the medial layer of the pulmonary vasculature, where they contribute to vascular tone, structural integrity, and the regulation of blood flow through the pulmonary circulation.
