Canine Smooth Muscle Cell Media is a culture medium designed to support the in vitro expansion, propagation, and maintenance of primary canine smooth muscle cells. It provides conditions intended to support cell viability and proliferation while maintaining phenotypic characteristics prior to functional assays or differentiation protocols.
Vascular smooth muscle cells form the principal cellular component of the tunica media in vessel walls, located beneath the endothelial layer of the tunica intima. They are distributed throughout the cardiovascular system, including the aorta, coronary arteries, pulmonary arteries, veins, and microvascular networks associated with capillary beds. In native tissue, these cells regulate vessel lumen diameter, vascular tone, and blood pressure through coordinated contraction and relaxation, contributing to vessel wall integrity under mechanical stress.
In culture, primary smooth muscle cells require appropriate growth conditions to proliferate while minimizing senescence and phenotypic change. Canine Smooth Muscle Cell Media provides a controlled environment for expanding primary populations while preserving smooth muscle characteristics.
